Mr. King graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State University, Bakersfield. He was named the University’s 2001 Alumnus of the Year.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Peer Review Board, has served as Chairman and a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants' Peer Review Committee, is a past chairman of the Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee, and is a past president and board member of the Bakersfield Chapter.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the California State University, Bakersfield Foundation. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board, serves as the Chairman on the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee, serves on the Finance Committee and has served on the Audit Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Garces Memorial High School serving on the Executive Committee and as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He also serves on the Citizens Advisory Committee of the Assistance League of Bakersfield.

He is a member, past treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield. He is a past board member of the Bakersfield Community House. He is past President of the Bakersfield Gunners Soccer Club, a youth soccer organization. He was also a Bakersfield City Council appointee to the City Center Expert Citizens Oversight Committee.

He is past Chairman, vice chairman and member of the Board of Directors of the Kern County Employee's Retirement Association, which is responsible for administering Kern County's public retirement system.

He has been very active in youth athletic activities as a parent and coach.
